More Mindset: Create Your Personal Impact Statement
What Does 'Living a Life That Matters Actually Mean? Find out in this mind and life-expanding exercise
A life that matters…
When I started this channel, I wanted to share with you how to challenge and change your mindset, build self-awareness and become a better leader of yourself.
I also had a strong desire to help you:
find your ‘something more’ (if you haven’t already), and
explore a life that matters.
The two are inextricably entwined. If we’re lucky enough to discover the ‘something more’ we instinctively feel is out there for us, and if we choose to pursue it in a purposeful way, it can bring a greater degree of joyful meaning to our lives.
When we feel that itch that tells us, ‘I just know there’s something I could be doing to make my life more satisfying’ and we don’t fully explore it (as I didn’t for half a lifetime), it can cost us dearly.
How do we begin to work out what ‘a life that matters’ looks like for us, as individuals?
Essentially, it’s about identifying our strongest values and core desires, and giving ourselves permission to use those as our compass in navigating towards a life of depth, joy and meaning.
It’s also about peeling away all the crap we’ve put on like survival gear over the years, and (re)discovering and celebrating the most fundamental aspects of who we are.
I shared a road-map of sorts in our first ever group-coaching session for paying subscribers at the end of August 2023, just two days after I posted my first article. (I frantically scrambled to pull together a training session as it hadn’t occured to me there would be any paying subscribers in my first month on Substack! My love and thanks go to each of you who’ve chosen to become and remain a paying subscriber.)
During the first session I outlined a basic structure for self reflection.
I’ve expanded on it below so grab a notebook, take yourself somewhere quiet and comfortable, let your mind play with these questions and give yourself absolute permission to daydream.
Please remember, you don’t need to have all the answers. The purpose of the exercise is to enhance your self-awareness and stimulate your mind to come up with ideas, and perhaps uncover buried desires.
At the end I’ve included a template for you to create your own impact statement, which you’ll be able to do using your notes from your reflection.
